My Damp January

January can come with a lot of pressure, can’t it?

New year, new routines, new goals and suddenly everyone seems to be doing a full reset, that just adds to the pressure of changing everything! Dry January is brilliant for many people, but personally, I’ve always preferred the idea of a Damp January, not necessarily cutting everything out completely, but being more mindful and intentional, drinking less, and slowing things down after the whirlwind of December

Because if I'm honest, for me it’s rarely just about the alcohol itself.

It’s about the ritual.

Its choosing something lovey to drink, reaching for my favourite glass, lighting a candle, sitting down properly, blanket on lap and finally exhaling after the chaos of Christmas. It’s opening a good book and taking a and taking a moment that feels calm, grown up and just for me.

And that feeling? you don’t need to lose it completely in January.

A damp January allows space to be intentional, Maybe it means drinking less often, maybe it means smaller pours, maybe it means choosing one really lovely glass at the weekend instead of mindless drinks throughout the week. Maybe it means swapping in low or no-alcohol options some evenings, while still keeping the ceremony of the moment.

For me January is less about punishment and more about balance.

After a season of rushing, hosting, shopping, socialising and doing all the things, it feels good to make room for slower evenings again. to savour instead of consume. To choose quality over quantity. To create small moments of comfort in the dark winter weeks.

So if dry January doesn’t feel like your style, that’s absolutely fine! You’re allowed to create your own version of a reset.

Perhaps this month is about reading more, rushing less, drinking mindfully, and enjoying the little rituals that make home feel peaceful again.

And, if that ritual happens to involve a beautiful glass of Malbec, or a cool glass of Sauvy B, a candle flickering nearby, and a page turner in hand… I completely understand.
